Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is all about expanding ideas and generating conversations about all aspects of Wisconsin’s ag industry. UW-Extension is working to showcase some alternative options for farmers to consider.
Richard Halopka is a Senior Outreach Specialist for UW-Madison Division of Extension in Clark County, and he oversees the Extension Education display at the Farm Tech Days show this year. He shares more about the alternative crop display that was planted for the show.
Halopka says that he finds it important to feature alternative crops because it shows visitors that they have options when their alfalfa or clover is dead or other disasters strike.
“We’re so tuned in to corn and soybeans. We’re so tuned in to alfalfa and red clover,” says Halopka. “We’re just showing there are some alternatives we can do in that process.”
Halopka also highlights some of the other offerings that Extension has for visitors to Clark County Farm Tech Days. There are exhibits featuring dairy/beef crosses, a tallest weed competition, and other farm management displays.
After the show is over, Halopka mentions that people can reach out to their Extension agents and follow their county’s Extension newsletter to stay up-to-date.
