NCBA – Beef Bounces Back

In partnership with the Northern Wisconsin Beef Producers Association (NWBPA), the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association (WCA) and Wisconsin Beef Council (WBC) hosted the 2022 WCA Summer Tour.

During the tour of the Menomonie area, attendees traveled to K-Lund Angus Farm in Woodville, SKOR Cattle Co. in Clear Lake, and the ALCIVIA – Menomonie Feed Mill.

Don Schiefelbein, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President, was in attendance at the second stop in Clear Lake for the Cattlemen’s Education Series. He shares more about the policy NCBA is watching in DC, including the Securities and Exchange Commission’s interest in tracking carbon emissions through the food chain all the way back to producers.

He says this will require any publicly traded company that sells stock to track their carbon footprint to the grassroots, which includes companies like McDonalds and Burger King.

Schiefelbein also says during the pandemic beef farmers and ranchers lost 50-60% of their market for cattle because of issues with the supply chain. He says the industry is sitting in a much better place now, which will continue to grow in the next 5-10 years.
