An often overlooked industry that is closely tied to agriculture is the forestry and wood products industry. One technical college in Wisconsin has a unique associate degree program that revolves around Wisconsin’s wood industry.
Logan Wells, a Wood Science instructor at Northcentral Technical College, shares more about their Wood Science degree offering.
Wells explains that the program trains students in all aspects of the wood industry, from the time the tree is harvested to when it is made into the final wood product. He mentions that they have a Wood Technology Center of Excellence in Antigo that houses a variety of technology to offer hands-on experiences to students.
Wells, a former Wisconsin FFA President, realizes the importance of sharing these opportunities with FFA members at a young age. He outlined the program for students visiting this year’s Wisconsin FFA Convention Expo.
