While most students have been back in the classroom for over a year, ag educators and FFA programs are still feeling the effects of the pandemic.
Gwen Boettcher, an ag educator from DeForest High School, shares how her students are still adjusting after the pandemic and working to stay active in FFA.
Boettcher explained that many students found difficulty in adjusting to a classroom setting upon returning to in-person classes. She and other ag educators have had to worked to teach their students how to operate again in a classroom setting.
Another effect of the pandemic is labor shortages. This has trickled down to FFA members across the state and resulted in them working long hours while trying to balance school and FFA activities. Boettcher says that it can be hard for students to take off of work in order to attend FFA events.
Boettcher and other ag educators are working to create FFA schedules earlier than normal so that their students have ample time to request off of work. She understands that FFA students are hard workers, and she hopes to help them manage their time in this period of adjustment.
