While school may be out for the summer, ag teachers are still at work developing and reworking their curriculum.
Sally Ladsten is the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education Consultant for the Department of Public Instruction. She also serves as the Wisconsin State FFA Advisor.
Ladsten says that although students are excited to attend in-person activities again, there are still some current challenges with engagement and scheduling.
Moving forward, she says they will be surveying individuals and collecting feedback on current curriculum standards. She predicts that curriculum moving forward will place emphasis on new technologies, and how they can be incorporated into career fields.
In addition to reworking curriculum, she says there is also a focus being placed on recruiting and retaining ag teachers across Wisconsin. A committee through the Wisconsin Association of Agricultural Educators is working to support teachers in any way they can to help them be successful in the classroom.
