Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative announced it is pleased with President Biden’s plan to nominate Doug McKalip as chief agricultural negotiator at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Last week, Biden announced plans to nominate Doug McKalip to the role. This political position is responsible for the majority of ag discussions with trading partners across the globe.
“Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative is pleased to see the Biden administration has selected a likely nominee for the key position of chief agricultural negotiator at USTR,” the co-op writes. “This role is critical to growing new international markets for the food our farmers produce and to striking fair trade deals. These are essential to securing the long-term health of the dairy community.”
Edge notes McKalip’s experience in ag policy and trade at USDA will serve farmers well.
Since March 2021, McKalip has served as senior adviser to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on trade, national security, animal and plant health regulations, and domestic and international issues. He was a senior adviser to the agriculture secretary, acting chief of staff at USDA and senior adviser for agriculture and rural affairs at the White House Domestic Policy Council during the Obama administration.
