There is an investment being made in Wisconsin’s meat processing industry through a $10 million allocation to the Meat and Poultry Supply Chain Resiliency Grant Program. The funding comes from ARPA dollars. Processors can apply for grants of up to $150,000.
Kevin Ladwig, a member of the Wisconsin Meat Industry Caucus from Johnsonville Sausage, shares how this funding will help processors find more talent for the meat processing industry. He also explains challenges that Johnsonville Sausage is anticipating heading into the summer.
Ladwig emphasizes the importance of the meat processing industry in Wisconsin, as it employs more than 100,000 people in the state. He is hopeful that this funding will kickstart recruitment efforts for processors.
Ladwig mentions that the Wisconsin Meat Industry Caucus will be working with the Wisconsin Livestock and Meat Council and the Wisconsin Meat Processors to develop a conference in October designed to help processors recruit, network, and educate.
