The meat goat industry has rapidly expanded in Wisconsin, and with that comes a large network of producers, breeders, and curious consumers. A relatively new organization is working to connect these people and educate the public about meat goats in Wisconsin.
Mike Egan, President of the Wisconsin Meat Goat Association, shares the goals of WMGA a year after its creation and what they are looking forward to in the months to come.
Egan says that the organization strives to connect the state’s meat goat producers to a thriving market while also educating consumers about the product. He also explains that although commercial producers and show stock breeders may have different goals for operations, he believes that any advocacy for the meat goat industry would be beneficial for all producers.
The WMGA plans on holding several seminars this summer that are open for anyone to attend and learn about different aspects of raising meat goats. Egan says that there is also a Junior Association that will be continuing its show series throughout the summer months.
