Meatsmith Co-op is one of Wisconsin’s meat processors that may benefit from an announcement about more financial grants channeled toward the industry.
On Monday, Gov. Tony Evers announced $10 million in grant monies from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), for the new Meat and Poultry Supply Chain Resiliency Grant Program.
Meatsmith Co-op is a newly formed organization serving Lafayette, Green, Iowa, Dane, Grant, and Rock Counties which aims to serve both farmers, butchers, and consumers, providing a close and transparent connection through the processing of whole carcass beef, pork, lamb, and goats.
Heather Oppor, VP for Meatsmith Co-op, says the town board, community members, and farmers have been very receptive of their plan since the beginning. They plan to open their operation later this year.
