Today we say, “thank you” to our nation’s famers. We honor the hardworking farmers from the past, present, and future. Only 2% of Americans feed and sustain the rest of us! We especially rely on farmers to get fresh food on our tables during these uncertain times. Let’s pay tribute to the men, women, and families who put food in the grocery stores and on our tables every day. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, about 97.1% of farms in America are family farms, family owned, and family operated.
Farmer’s contribution to the economy extends well beyond the food they grow. In 2019, 22.2 million full and part-time jobs were related to the agricultural and food sectors which is about 10.9% of total U.S. employment. October 12th is a fitting day for National Farmers Day since it is near the end of harvest time. Be sure to thank our famers for all that they do for us!
