I have a deep passion for the dairy industry and learning about new technology and operations that are hitting the market. At the World Dairy Expo, I get to partake and enrich my passion. In high school, our FFA chapter would take a school bus full of members to Madison for the expo. Members were so excited to go on a field trip for a day and learn about one of the industries in agriculture. Every year, we left the school at 5:30am and stopped at the Kwik Trip in Fennimore for breakfast. After our pitstop at Kwik Trip we got back on the bus and finished our trip to the Alliant Energy Center.
Each year, we held a competition of who could collect the most pencils from the vendors and educational booths. Part of the fun at expo was going to all the booths and learning about different products, technologies, colleges, and other businesses and how they are a part of the dairy and agricultural industries. However, my favorite part was watching the dairy show. I have shown dairy cattle at my local county fair since I was in third grade; showing is an important part of my life. These high class show cattle represent the dairy industry and all the hard work and effort farmers put into their cattle. I also love seeing the different colored shavings, displays and decorations each year.
I hope to go back to the World Dairy Expo not as a spectator, but as a vendor at a booth. After college, I would like to work at an agricultural company as a team member in the advertising or communications department. With this goal, I hope I will make a return to see the famous colored shavings.
