Wisconsin farmers had a busy week for field work as temps were slightly above normal and conditions were mostly good, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Precipitation did vary widely, from over 3 inches to less than 1⁄4 inch. Corn for grain, corn for silage, soybeans and hay
are coming off the fields. Meanwhile, fall tillage is 10 percent complete and manure spreading is proceeding. Forty-two percent of winter wheat is in the ground, four days ahead of the average.
Corn is reported 96 percent dented. Sixty-one percent of corn was mature, two days behind last year but a week ahead of the 5-year average. Harvest for grain is 5 percent complete, five days ahead of the average. Corn condition was 76 percent good to excellent, 1 percentage point above last week.
Corn silage is 80 percent harvested, more than two weeks ahead of the average.
Soybeans are reported 97 percent coloring. Eighty percent of soybeans are dropping leaves, two days ahead of last year and nine days ahead of the average. Soybean harvest is 11 percent complete, five days ahead of the average. Soybean condition was 75 percent good to excellent, 2 percentage points above last week.
Potato harvest is reported 63 percent complete.
The 4th cutting of alfalfa hay is 89 percent complete, just over two weeks ahead of the average.
Pasture condition was rated 64 percent good to excellent, 1 percentage point above last week.
