Democratic state officials toured two poultry facilities in Rock County on Monday. The tours took place at MacFarlane Pheasants (Janesville) and Twin Cities Pack processing (Clinton).
In addition to the Democratic members of the State Assembly Committee on Agriculture, both State Senator Janis Ringhand (D-Evansville) and Secretary-designee Randy Romanski of the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection joined the tour.
“As a state legislator that represents Rock County and a member of the Assembly Committee on Agriculture, I was proud to tour these poultry facilities in our community today,” said Rep. Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit). “It was very informative to hear directly from each facility about how the state can support farmers and agriculture, and it was particularly impactful to learn about the challenges facing meat processors in our area.”
“Meat processing is a crucial piece of Wisconsin’s agricultural economy. Unfortunately, the demand for meat processing exceeds our capacity in Wisconsin. That is why I am glad we were able to hear directly from skilled harvesters today, and why I will continue to work to create state support for meat processors. Thank you to MacFarlane Pheasants and Twin Cities Pack for their hospitality today,” said Rep. Dave Considine (D-Baraboo), who serves as the ranking Democrat for the Assembly Committee on Agriculture.
“Participating in tours like this gives us the opportunity to hear directly from producers the challenges they are facing in the industry,” said Secretary-designee Randy Romanski of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. “Investing in supply chain resiliency is a priority for the state, and I was grateful to speak on how we can help facilities across Wisconsin. I want to thank Bill MacFarlane and the Assembly Committee on Agriculture for including DATCP on this tour.”
Rep. Don Vruwink (D-Milton) said, “It was nice to visit MacFarlane Pheasants today. As the State Representative for the 43rd Assembly District, I am proud that this business in my district has been able to succeed despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. I had a great time.”
“As a State Senator, it is always important to listen to those working on the front lines,” said Senator Janis Ringhand (D-Evansville). “Agriculture is the primary economic driver in our area and will continue to steer Wisconsin into the future.”
