Celebrate Dane County Heritage

Mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. for the Schumacher Farm Heritage Fest.

Mark Pelton, president of Friends of Schumacher Farm, says this is a chance to experience Dane County as it was in the 20s and 30s.

Keeping true to its heritage and mission of preservation and education, demonstrations of steam-powered antique threshing machines and 1920-30s harvesting techniques will be held throughout the day.

Throughout the farm, guests are invited to participate in cooking in the farm’s kitchen using herbs and foods from the Heritage Garden. Small farm animals will be hanging out at the farm so folks can get a close-up look, get to know them and pet the different animals. They can also try their hand at woodworking, weaving, knitting, spinning, cider making and many other crafts.

House tours, music and old-fashioned games will be going on all day for the whole family.

It’s been two years since the last Heritage Fest, and Pelton is optimistic that the turnout will be good. He says the Schumacher Farm Park Music Festival held in June was well-received.

Tickets are available the day of the event: $10/adult, $3/children ages 3 and older, or $20/family.

Pelton says volunteers are always welcome for this event. If you are interested in helping with this year’s Heritage Fest, sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044fafae2ca2fc1-20211
