Family Fun Dairy Event

June Dairy Month continues with the recent Watertown Agri-Business Drive-Thru Farm Tour and Grilled Cheese Meal To Go. The event brought community together even through a different format they were used to.

Brad Brusveen, President of the Watertown Agri-Business Club, helped plan the event. Brusveen says it was, “A big wildcard trying to figure out how many people we thought would attend.” To feed any crowd, it takes a lot of food and Brusveen says they had 250 lbs of Sliced American Cheese, 150 lbs of Sliced Ham, 300 Loaves of Bread, 80 lbs of Butter, 187 lbs of String Cheese, 375 lbs of Yogurt Sticks, 250 Dozen Cookies, 375 lbs of Apples Slices, 100 lbs of Just the Cheese Cheese Chips, Culvers Custard Coupons, and of course Milk!

Not only did the event have a lot of food, but there were plenty of volunteers too. Brusveen says, “For our traditional breakfast, it takes a lot of people to do an event like that.” It was a reason to have a drive-thru event instead so the event could move forward regardless to what COVID-19 restrictions may be. However, Brusveen saw a great support from 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, and club members volunteering.

Brusveen says, “Our main purpose is to support agriculture and other businesses in the Watertown area.” The club does this by rewarding scholarships to students pursuing careers in agriculture, 4-H club and FFA member projects, and supporting youth in auctions at county fairs. There are many clubs, counties, and communities putting on events just like these to support agriculture in their community.
