State’s Potato Industry Grows in Acres and Revenue

State’s Potato Industry Grows in Acres and Revenue

Wisconsin potato production in 2019 totaled 28.7 million hundredweight, up 6 percent from 2018, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Potatoes 2019 Summary. The state’s potato growers planted 71,000 acres, up 2,000 acres from 2018.

Harvested acres in 2019 were reported at 70,000, up 3,000 acres from the previous year. Average yield per acre was up from 405 hundredweight in 2018 to 410 hundredweight in 2019. Price per hundredweight, at $11.80, was up from the previous year’s $10.50. Total value of production of the Wisconsin potato crop increased from $285 million in 2018 to $339 million in 2019.
