Dave Laatsch has been raising poultry since he was 5 years old, and has been judging poultry for the last 35 years. He was the showmanship and meat bird judge for the 2020 Fond du Lac County Fair. He is a familiar face at many poultry shows across the state by judging 12-14 county fairs a summer. This summer after the cancellations happened, he still has 4 or 5 shows to judge.
Poultry is a great project for any one to take part in, and for showmanship at county fairs it is always a tight competition. Poultry Showmanship is judged one on one with the exhibitor and the judge and it is the exhibitor’s time to showcase all of the poultry knowledge they have.
A lot of Poultry Shows have been canceled this summer but one has popped up on the calendar that is being put on by the Beaver Pigeon and Bantam club. It is call the “It’s not Fair Youth Poultry Show” and it is taking place at the Dodge County Fairgrounds. This show is expecting 100-120 youth exhibitors and 1000 to 1200 birds. If you would like to learn more about poultry as a hobby or a project, the show will be starting at 9 am and many exhibitors will be there to answer questions.
