Nearly 50 Wisconsin Fairs Have Been Canceled

The number of fairs in Wisconsin that have been canceled continues to grow. According to the Wisconsin Association of Fairs, 31 of the 75 state aided Wisconsin State, County and District Fairs are planning on hosting their 2020 Fair. But, the number of fairs that have either scrapped their plans or heavily modified things is just under 50.

A complete list of fairs that have been canceled or modified can be found by visiting the Wisconsin Association of Fairs’ website. Counties that have canceled include Grant, LaCrosse, Door, Oconto, Dodge, Kenosha, Green, Polk, Jefferson, Dunn, Rock, Sauk, and Kewaunee. Some fairs have been modified, including Outagamie County and Langlade County.

Efforts are underway to help youth exhibitors show and sell their county fair projects. To give kids a chance to show their animals later this summer, a small group of passionate folks in the livestock industry created the Wisconsin Livestock Expo. The Executive Board behind this brand-new event began brainstorming in March just in case the State Fair did get canceled. Once the fair was officially scrapped, the Livestock Expo team rushed in as an alternate way for young people to exhibit their animals. “This show is to provide a replacement show for the kids who no longer have a State Fair at which to show,” the Expo’s website explains.

The Green County Livestock Auction also recently announced that exhibitors would be able to sell their animals at or above market price. On June 10th, letters were sent to past buyers of the Green County Fair Livestock Auction, offering up a couple of ways to purchase fair animals from exhibitors. If you would like more info on that you can click right here. The Mid-West Farm Report will continue to keep you updated on county fair status throughout the state.
