Those who need to know understand all-too-well without reading this that the region’s rain that continued into this morning might slow any anticipated west-central Wisconsin hay cutting.
While that rain continues to nourish the crops already planted, some farmers are reporting that they’re nearly ready to get the hay-cutting equipment rolling; area University of Wisconsin-Extension agriculture agents also are reporting that productive equations for alfalfa quality tests are indicating that the relative feed values in plenty of the region’s fields are nearing the point where cutting could begin.
Eau Claire meteorologist Kelly Slifka this morning said there’s a good chance that the rain will stop this morning and that the weather might clear enough through Tuesday for some of that cutting to begin.
It will be good to hear that equipment and smell those beautiful wafts of first-cut hay drift through the countryside.
