With Memorial Day weekend straight ahead, it’s very fitting to take a look at some of our veterans in agriculture. Matthew Keesling served active duty in the U.S. Army for 24 years, which included service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Keesling served our country from high school until 2017, when he retired.
Upon his retirement he chose to move to North Central Wisconsin and begin his career as a dairy farmer. “I decided through family discussions with my children….that I wanted to be an entrepreneur,” Keesling says. Due to his family’s love of rural America and livestock, the answer was simple for the family’s post-military ambitions.
The Keesling family runs Woodland View Dairy in Deerbrook, a 85-head operation. It truly is a family effort, he explains, as his children have an active role in the farm on a day-to-day basis.
