The La Crosse Farmers Market Association announced it will postpone its opening day for the Cameron Park Farmers Market until May 15.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers deemed farmers markets as an “essential business” and a necessary food access point for communities. Market Manager Linda Vale said before opening, they wanted to work with the City of La Crosse, La Crosse County Health Department, DHS, and UW-Extension to develop guidelines and protocols to help customers and vendors have safe shopping and selling strategies.
“We are working tirelessly to keep up to date on our current health guidelines so people can continue to support our many local farmers and other businesses during these uncertain and unfortunate times,” Vale said.
Vale added the delayed start will give The La Crosse Farmers Market Association more time to educate the community on aides that will help open accessibility to the market throughout the season. Some of these include accepting WIC and EBT/FoodShare benefits and the possibility of pre-order and designated pick up areas.
