We are receiving multiple reports that strategic milk dumping is beginning around the state of Wisconsin involving some of our larger dairy operators. We are following up with all officials involved, company officials that make themselves available, and impacted dairy’s and milk haulers.
If you are a part of this chain and would like to provide us more information, please feel free to reach out to our staff:
[email protected] or [email protected]
Although we’re working remotely – we are committed to getting every element of this developing story covered.
Please keep checking back for updates and thank you for providing us your story in this unfortunate situation.

If you let them sell it to the public they wouldn’t have to dump it it’s the best milk cold and good
WE WOULD BE WILING TO PAY “TOP” DOLLAR FOR ANY MILK FROM WISCONSIN FARMERS.
Tell me where you are and how much milk you can handle. I’ll get you connected. Pam Jahnke, Farm Director.
I drink milk everyday. In coral for breakfast and either for lunch or dinner. I like cheese and ice cream. Cottage cheese and cream cheese. My daughter loves chocolate milk and strawberry milk. I wish I could find some banana flavored milk. I will buy these products. Dont dump it.
I live in Oconto falls, grew up on milk out of the bulk tank. Where can we get it now?
I grew up with milk out of the bulk tank too. Now it is illegal for that farm to pull anything but samples out of that tank or violate their dairy license. Although I grew up like that I am not personally an advocate for raw milk to the general public. My body tolerance is much different than someone that’s never been near a cow/farm. I don’t know that their body chemistry can handle everything that’s in raw milk – and they may not know what sanitary practices that farm is taking from the stall to the jar.
I would like milk too for my family. How can we get into contact with milk farmers?
By law, farmers are not allowed to make milk sales at the farm unless they’re permitted that way. Please understand, most dairy farms have no ability to give you just a gallon. If you want 1,000 gallons – then they may be interested. The volumes were talking about here are just to vast for individual consumers to make a dent.
dose this mean that the bigger Company’s are trying to jack up the milk prices
There really aren’t many dairy companies doing that well. Bankruptcy Dean Foods, Borden’s – smaller brands are actually becoming the more powerful.
Maybe farmers should start putting Milk For Sale at the end of their driveways
Unfortunately Farmers don’t usually have processing facilities on their farms and they can’t sell unprocessed to you.
Which is wrong processing takes everything out of the milk.farmers should have the right to sell their own processed milk period.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if farms were equipped with their own processing on farm. That is a very expensive investment for a farmer to make. Plus, if his milk cost $6 a gallon but major outlets like Walmart, Costco, Publix, Kroger, Safeway are selling it for half – how many consumers will consistantly come to that farm for milk? Covid-19 has a lot of non-farm consumers thinking very differently about agriculture and their food resources.
That’s not legal in every state. Here in Kansas, that just recently became legal.
Farmers can’t sell it at the end of their driveways because it’s illegal to sell raw milk
The Amish drink raw milk I believe.
No one I know in this world years ago cant ever say they have never drank raw milk. Yes I know you cant now but this is not helping anyone but hurting the people that work really hard to keep us alive with food if we didnt have farmers how would we live we dont get veggies meat fruits and more only from farmers I hope someone sees my point and realize that we need farmers everywhere to stay alive. !!!!!!!
This makes me angry when I am limited to 1 gallon at the store we were brought up on a farm and raised to drink milk all our lives some people have to have their morning coffee take my milk away this is war when I don’t have milk
I’d be in for curb side pick up!
Maybe donate to shelters and other families? I would gladly take fresh milk over store bought any day and I’m sure most people in wi are the same.
Donate to schools or other places that couse it to feed the poor including foreign countries. Please dont dump. The prices of milk in the stores should be raised. Way too low now.
I cannot imagine why you couldn’t sell to pig farms. I grew up in the south and pigs always got the unsold and/or old milk.
In theory you’re absolutely right. I grew up with hogs and we did basically the same thing with cheese whey. Problem is that today we have very few hog farms in Wisconsin and those farms that do have large scale pork production are very biosecure. Bringing in large loads of unprocessed milk and introducing to a diet that never included fluid milk could collapse their business!
How about donating to local food pantries. We could use milk at ours to give to clients.
Again, this milk is unprocessed and unpackaged? Could your food pantry handle unpackaged milk? Doubt it – therein lies the problem.
I feel like the only way we could have solved a lot of this problem is to ship the milk that was supposed to go to the schools to local grocery stores and sell it there. It would be our duty as customers to buy the milk even if it was in small cartons. Switching production on any product due to a 1-2 year change in demand is very extensive.
I’d love to have fresh milk it’s the very best and most farmers who are selling milk know to take all the precautions before milking so it’s as safe as milk from the store to me
Come east with those tankers. Milk is being rationed here!
Folks in the shutdown they are saying(not the farmers) there is more Milk than a demand so the price drops!! No way!! This is crazy!! Now they are trying to break the farmers!!! Please Lord help our farmers!!!
Why would they be dumping milk when just this past week there wasn’t any milk on the shelves. Sounds more like somebody wanting to run milk prices up.
Last week WM wouldn’t let me buy two half gallons, but would allow 1 full gallon (rule 1 container only). Aldi’s allowed 2 containers. We saw no limits on cheese, butter & yogurt and stock was low. When we have kids at home (instead of school) and are directed to only buy groceries once every 2 weeks, how can we possibly get enuf milk for our kids and grandkids? Then to hear they are dumping it!!! This is a problem needing to be fixed ASAP. Thank you for working on it.
Growing up on a farm, all you had was milk that came fresh from the cooler…no processing necessary, nothing wrong with it. I support the farmers decisions
Walmart produces its own milk to which is hurting the entire industry by undercutting any competition until they eliminate all competition…kind of like the Amazon of the milk industry….why is no one reporting on this…they just managed to put Deans into bancrupcy.
