There’s some good news for Wisconsin’s ethanol plants, and the battle with covid-19.
Over the weekend, Erik Huschitt, CEO & General Manager/ Director of Badger State Ethanol in Monroe and President of Wisconsin’s Biofuels Association tells Pam Jahnke that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued new guidance and made adjustments to allow ethanol plants to make hand sanitizer.
Huschitt says that as of Monday Badger State Ethanol will begin trying to secure the required denaturants and permitting so they can begin making hand sanitizer available in large quantities.
This announcement comes at a time when all of Wisconsin’s 9 ethanol plants are struggling to stay open. Historically low oil prices have added one more nail in the coffins of many ethanol operations. That follows two years of sub-par growing seasons and poor quality corn.
Huschitt says this hand sanitizer opportunity won’t save the industry or individual plants, but “it’s the right thing to do”. He said Badger State Ethanol will charge only enough to cover their costs to allow better access to health care providers, EMS operations, and fire fighters. You can reach Erik Huschitt to discuss production plans and acquiring the hand sanitizer by calling 608-329-3900. Remember – they are just in the initial planning stages and will not be able to supply any product immediately.
