The National Weather Service has been working with UW-Extension staff for more than 10 years gathering data on changing weather patterns around the state. The challenge is – there’s not as many ground reporting stations as needed to really form true models. Now, the weather service is hoping that farmers and rural residents will step up to help by becoming an official rainfall reporter.
Kevin Erb, Director, Conservation Professional Training Program for UW-Extension, has been one of their key partners. Erb says during the month of March they’re trying to get farmers and rural residents to sign up as rainfall reporters, with very few requirements. Just jump on line and sign up! There’s a friendly challenge of what state can get the most participants signed up – so act quick!
You can hear the interesting trends Wisconsin farmers have been experiencing weather-wise by listening to this conversation with Kevin Erb and Pam Jahnke.
