A little fun, a lot of fact! That was the message Friday night when the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association presented Scott Hoffman with the BQA Producer of the Year award during their annual winter conference in Wisconsin Dells.
Hoffman, owner and operator of J&S Angus Farms in Northwest Richland County is a 5th generation farmer on his family’s homestead farm dating back to 1868. He raises registered and commercial Angus and performance tests all of the cattle.
Scott believes in raising beef in a cow calf setting that is responsible and economical in the steep terrain of the driftless region he lives on in SW Wisconsin. He’s been a long time member and advocate for the Wisconsin Cattlemen and served two terms on the board of the Richland County Cattlemen. He’s also a long time member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA).
Scott became Beef Quality Assurance certified in 2010 and continues to maintain his certification. If you follow him on Facebook, you’ll see frequent posts showing him doing wellness checks and implementing BQA practices within his herd. A quote from Scott as part of an interview for the WI Beef Council website sums him up very well. “Farmers and ranchers are the true definition of ‘active environmentalits’, Hoffman says. “We are working 24/7 to produce a nutritious, safe protein product while being stewards of the lands to future generations.”
