Valentine’s Day has come and gone, as always. But around WAXX, we pay attention to Feb. 14 for another reason: It’s the anniversary of the day in 1977 when farm director Bob Bosold starting working with the station.
Much has happened in agriculture across the region, state and nation during those 43 years since Bob’s voice first was heard on the station’s broadcasts. What hasn’t changed is the passion he has for his work and the deserved respect he gains from his listeners and co-workers.
I’ve started a running joke in seeing how many times a day someone meeting me will start a conversation by greeting me and then immediately asking about Bob’s whereabouts. It happens often at farm shows, and I suspect it will happen often Wednesday and Thursday during the Marshfield Mall Farm Show in Marshfield, WI.
We’re always excited about those shows, and it’s a great place for people to catch up with Bob — and even me, for that matter.
I’ve known Bob for nearly all of the 43 years he’s worked at WAXX, our paths crossing often while I was in the newspaper industry before I joined the WAXX crew. He’s gained my respect, and I’ve been proud to work the past couple of years with him.
Together, we’re looking forward to another great year of filling the WAXX airwaves and these spaces with news about farming and the rural countryside in general.
We’re also looking forward to seeing many of you Wednesday and Thursday at the Marshfield Mall Farm Show.
