At a brief meeting held immediately following the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA) Annual Meeting, February 6, Stevens Point, the WPVGA Board of Directors elected Rod Gumz of Gumz Muck Farms, Endeavor, as its President for 2020. Gumz (District 3) succeeds Wes Meddaugh of Heartland Farms, Hancock, who served as Board President in 2019. Bill Guenthner of Guenthner Farms, Inc., Antigo (District 1), was elected Vice President; Meddaugh was elected Secretary; and Mike Carter of Bushmans’ Inc., Rosholt (District 2), was elected Treasurer.
In addition to the four board officers, the rest of the WPVGA Board of Directors includes: John Bustamante of Wysocki Family of Companies, Bancroft (District 2); Dan Kakes of Kakes Farms, Inc., Antigo (District 1); Charlie Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons, Inc., Deerbrook (District 1); Alex Okray of Okray Family Farms, Plover (District 2); and Eric Wallendal of Wallendal Supply, Inc., Grand Marsh (District At-Large).
WPVGA Associate Division Board Re-Elects Kenton Mehlberg President for 2020
The WPVGA Associate Division Board of Directors re-elected Kenton Mehlberg of T.I.P., Inc./Ag Grow Solutions, Custer, to be its President for 2020. Mehlberg also served as President of the Board in 2019. The rest of the officers for 2020 include: Paul Cieslewicz of Sand County Equipment, Bancroft (Vice President); Julie Cartwright of Jay-Mar, Inc., Plover (Secretary); and Rich Wilcox of Portage County Bank, Stevens Point (Treasurer).
Wilcox and Chris Brooks of Central Door Solutions, Plover, were incumbent Associate Division Board members who were re-elected to the Board for their second terms. Sally Suprise of Rural Mutual Insurance, who had filled in for a year upon the departure of a board member in 2019, was officially elected for her first term. In addition, Justin Yach of Compass Insurance Services, Stevens Point, was elected for his first time on the board, and Kristi Kulas, M3 Insurance, Madison, enters the second year of her first term. Yach was elected to replace Nick Laudenbach of Fencil Urethane Systems, Wisconsin Rapids, who completed his second term on the Board.
Fassbender Unanimously Elected WSPIA President for 2020
As part of the Wisconsin Seed Potato Improvement Association (WSPIA) Annual Meeting, January 29, at North Star Lanes in Antigo, the WSPIA Board of Directors elected Jeff Fassbender of Seidl Farms, Deerbrook, president for 2020. Fassbender succeeds Dan Kakes of Kakes Farms, Bryant, who served as Board President in 2019. J.D. Schroeder of Schroeder Brothers Farms, Inc., Antigo, was elected vice president; and Jeff Suchon, Bushman’s Riverside Ranch, Inc., Crivitz, was elected secretary/treasurer.
In addition to the three board officers, the other two WSPIA Board of Directors are Roy Gallenberg of Gallenberg Farms, Inc., Bryant, and Matt Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons, Inc., Deerbrook.
