Enrollment for the latest round of the federal Conservation Reserve Program opens today.
The program, established in 1985, is designed to provide rural landowners with secure incomes while establishing long-term conservation projects on their properties. It’s especially recognized for enhancing wildlife habitat and improving water and soil quality.
Registration for the program may be made through county Farm Service Agency offices. The enrollment period continues through Feb. 28.
There are are 22 million acres enrolled in the CRP; the 2018 Farm Bill raised the enrollment cap to 27 million acres.
