The American Farm Bureau Federation honored 15 farm and ranch leaders as graduates of the organization’s Women’s Communications Boot Camp, including Wisconsin’s own Beth Schaefer.
“The AFBF boot camp challenged my comfort zone while connecting me with like-minded women from across the U.S. who are genuinely passionate about sharing agriculture’s story,” Schaefer said. “I have gained a valuable support network and I am going home with an arsenal of tips and tactics that will allow me to be a stronger advocate for agriculture and Farm Bureau.”
The Women’s Communications Boot Camp is an intensive four-day course featuring sessions on working with the media, public speaking and messaging.
Schaefer’s fellow boot camp graduates are: Margaret Gladden, Indiana; Anna Troester, Iowa; Mary Mertz, Kansas; Mary Fischer, Missouri; Eileen Jensen, New York; Robin Reeves, North Carolina; Lisa Kahlig, Ohio; Tracy Woodard, South Carolina; Julie Giles, Tennessee; Jessica Rumbaugh, Texas; Dotty Jensen, Utah; Delaney Nalder, Utah; Sarah Howard, Washington; and Mariah Hatton, West Virginia.
Schaefer is a member of Marathon County Farm Bureau and a former member of the WFBF Young Farmer and Agriculturist Committee. She is employed by Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin as a regional manager. Schaefer and her husband, Matt, live in Hatley with their three young children.
The American Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee, in partnership with AFBF staff, hosts and provides training for the Women’s Communications Boot Camp. This is the 14th year of the program, which has 210 graduates and is open to women involved in Farm Bureau. An application process is used to select the participants.
