The average price farmers receive for their milk could rise by more than $2 per hundredweight for the year, according to a long-time Wisconsin dairy economist.
University of Wisconsin-Madision dairy economist emeritus Bob Cropp said recently in his monthly newsletter that the year’s average Class III milk price could continue to improve and reach $16.75 per hundredweight for the year.
The increases are the result of reduced production increases, reduced feed quality, increased butter and cheese demands, and improving export markets, he said.
Though exports to nations such as China, Japan and some other parts of the world have decreased during the year, Cropp said sales are increasing well to many Asian nations.
He said he expects the increasing price trends to continue into 2020.
