In a state known as America’s Dairyland, it is sometimes easy to forget that there are other livestock-based industries outside of dairy. Perhaps one of the most interesting agricultural industries in Wisconsin is the sheep and wool industry. Sheep in Wisconsin are a multi purpose animal as they are used for their meat, wool, and milk.
The Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival is right around the corner as it is taking place at the Jefferson Fair Park in Jefferson this weekend. Quite simply, there is no better event to showcase the amazing industry as hundreds of events are planned over the span of the festival.
Daily events include a wool handling workshop, fleece shows, farm to table cooking demonstrations, junior sheep show, and the crowd favorite stock dog trials. There are hundreds of daily events and you can view a full list here. The event takes place September 6th-8th.
