A sewage spill was detected on Tuesday, August 13th, along Crystal Springs Road within Peninsula State Park. A damaged sewer line coming from the golf course clubhouse caused the spill.
The spill is contained. The clubhouse at the golf course is currently closed, however the golf course itself remains open for public use. Once the sewer pipe is repaired, an outside contractor will clean up the spill.
Crystal Springs Road borders Peninsula State Park and has a series of private residences. As a precaution, due to the sensitive nature of groundwater in the area, the drinking water program advises homeowners along Crystal Springs Road to avoid drinking or cooking with well water unless it has been boiled for at least one minute.
DNR personnel will contact well owners to obtain water samples to determine if their well has been affected by the release. If well owners notice a change in color, odor or taste of their water, they should stop drinking it or cooking with it and contact DNR immediately at 920-360-2688.
We anticipate completion of repairs and clean-up within the coming days. There is no threat to the public or public drinking water.
