Troy Farms is an urban farm located on the Northern side of Madison, which works to provide access to fresh, locally produced food to all, no matter what income level you have. They recently restructured their community shares program to make it so that those with a lower income level can have access to their locally produced food at a reduced rate, which allows them to enjoy the farm fresh produce without worrying about the cost.
Troy Farms restructured their CSA to only offer Market Share options, with pick-up on the farm and at the North side Farmer’s Market. The aim is to make their food more accessible to lower-income folks in the farm’s neighborhood. Their market shares have a few different payment options – 4 different price levels, and plans to spread payment across a few months rather than up-front. Troy Farms also works with FairShare in conjunction with their Partner Shares Program to assist even more families.
In a partnership with the FairShare CSA Coalition, Farm Intern Emily Matzke, recently spoke with Sheen Tesch, of Troy Farms to learn more.
