There is so much happening in the meat industry that sometimes it’s tough to keep up. Luckily, Dr. Stacy Scramlin-Zuelly, Assistant Professor of Animal Sciences at Purdue University, is a meat expert that knows everything there is to know about the current happenings of meat.
Meat itself is at a very interesting place at the moment as out-of-the-box ideas are beginning to become reality. One concept, for example, is the idea that meat can now be “grown” in a petri dish. Scramlin-Zuelly says that these petri dish meats pose an interesting regulation conflict between the FDA and USDA. Another thing to watch for are plant-based proteins, Scramlin-Zuelly says.
Furthermore, with grilling season in full swing it is a perfect time to revisit some simple food safety tips that will prove helpful this summer.
