The confidence level of our Wisconsin farmers continues to improve, but that’s not the case everywhere. According to USDA 20% of all corn acres are rated poor-very poor. Major corn states like Illinois and Indiana have 22% of their corn acres in that bracket. Ohio – 23% poor-very poor and Missouri as much as 33% in that category.
As of Sunday according to the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service, corn emerged statewide was reported at 94 percent complete, 22 days behind last year. Corn condition was 59 percent good to excellent, 4 percentage points above last week. Ninety six percent of soybeans were planted, 20 days behind last year and 22 days behind the 5-year average.
Eighty nine percent of soybeans had emerged, 19 days behind both last year and the average. Soybean condition was 64 percent good to excellent, up 3 percentage points from last week.
Winter wheat was 87 percent headed, 11 days behind last year and 15 days behind the average. Forty percent of winter wheat acres were coloring, 8 days behind last year and 10 days behind the average. Winter wheat condition was 55 percent good to excellent, up a percentage point from last week.
Oats emerged was 96 percent complete. Fifty six percent of oats had headed, 11 days behind last year and 12 days behind the average. Eleven percent of oats had colored, 9 days behind last year and 8 days behind the average. Oat condition was 71 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
Potato condition was 87 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
The first cutting of alfalfa was reported as 92 percent complete, 11 days behind the average. The second cutting was reported as 19 percent complete, 12 days behind last year and 11 days behind the average. All hay condition was reported 42 percent in good to excellent condition, the same as last week.
Pasture condition was rated 63 percent in good to excellent condition, up 1 percentage point from last week.
