Growers seeking to comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule have a new educational resource in the form of the Farmers Union Produce Safety Podcast, an educational series for fruit and vegetable farmers that takes the PSA (Produce Safety Alliance) classroom learning into the field.Hosted by the late Chris Blanchard of Purple Pitchfork, this podcast shares produce safety requirements and best practices — from harvesting to record-keeping — so that you can take this knowledge and easily apply it your operation. Each episode covers different topics and range from 5-20 minutes in length.“Starting a food safety journey can be intimidating at first, but we hope that this podcast series will make the process easier and let everyone realize that they can implement steps on their farm to make their food safer for consumers,” said Wisconsin Farmers Union Membership & Education Organizer Kirsten Slaughter. “The topics are great for farmers just starting to look at produce safety and for those who want a review before the start of the season.”The Farmers Union Produce Safety Podcast is free and available for download on iTunes or online at www.wisconsinfarmersunion.com/podcast.
