During a time of great uncertainly in the ag industry Wisconsin pork continues to push forward to educate and promote their producers and products. In a recent interview with Assistant Farm Director Jenna Lee, Wisconsin Pork Producers Association (WPA) Program Director Mandy Masters, shared all their organization is doing to help Wisconsin pork producers and satisfy their consumers.
This year the Wisconsin State Fair will be filled with fun, family and a new pork product for you to try. WPA has added a new item to their Pork Schoppe menu during the Wisconsin State Fair. All fair long attendees will be able to enjoy Bacon Wrapped Pork On-a-Stick. Tender, juicy pork loin will be wrapped in hardwood smoked bacon, lightly seasoned, grilled to perfection, and served in true state fair fashion – on a stick.
“The bacon wrapped pork on a stick is the perfect fair food,” said Masters. “It is grilled to perfection and you can enjoy it on its own or with our sweet tangy barbecue sauce.”
The bacon wrapped pork will be available at the Pork Schoppe from 9 am to 10 pm August 2-12 during the Wisconsin State Fair. The Pork Schoppe is located on the northeast corner of the Wisconsin Products Pavilion, near the intersection of Grandstand and Wisconsin Way at State Fair Park. In addition to the new menu item, the Pork Schoppe will continue to serve its original butterfly pork chop sandwich, pork chop on a stick, pork burger, and several other food and drink items.
Along with serving up some delicious pork products the WPA will also recognize one of their own during the 10 day event. Tom Knauer, Avalon, Wisc., will be inducted into the Wisconsin State Fair Hall of Fame on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at approximately 1:00 p.m., in the Swine Barn at the Wisconsin State Fair, in West Allis. The award presentation will take place prior to the Supreme Champion Drive that afternoon.
Tom is a long-time, successful breeder of high quality landrace hogs. He has been a consistent exhibitor at the Wisconsin State Fair and has had multiple champions over the years. Tom is a strong advocate for the Wisconsin pork industry and is involved in several organizations supporting agriculture, including serving on the WPA board of directors.
“Everyone is welcome to come and support Tom during the induction. He will have his name listed in the Swine Barn as a Hall of Fame member after the ceremony,” said Masters.
Soon after the State Fair saw dust settles pork producers, allied industry representatives, and friends of the pork industry are invited to participate in Wisconsin Pork Association’s 19th Annual Pork Classic golf outing. The event will take place on September 5 at the Pleasant View Golf Course in Middleton. Team registration is $380, or individuals can sign-up for $95 and you will be assigned to a team. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, dinner, and hole and team prizes. Hole in one prizes include a chance to win $10,000 cash.
Hotel, meal, prize and other sponsorship packages are also available starting at $100. Anyone who would like more information about donating prizes or participating as a sponsor should contact the WPA office. The registration deadline is August 17th.
