Students at Kids Express Learning Center (KELC) in Madison will get the chance to learn about the wonders of the dairy industry with the Wisconsin Holstein Association on Friday, June 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the KELC campus.
The Wisconsin Holstein Association will offer three educational and interactive stations to teach the children about the nutritional value of dairy products and raise awareness about dairy farming. The children at KELC will interact with live Holstein calves, sample Sassy Cow Creamery ice cream, understand the role of a dairy farmer, and learn about the industry with dairy-specific books. A fourth station with children’s string band, Starr Grass Band, will be available for children to dance and enjoy live music played by kids like themselves.
“I believe it’s really important for children to learn where their food comes from and see live dairy animals,” said Mara Budde, Communications Associate at WHA. “Partnering with KELC to show kids how dairy farms work and how dairy foods can fit into a healthy diet aligns with their focus on nature, the arts and healthy eating. We are very excited to be able to offer this unique experience to the kids at KELC.”
Wisconsin Holstein Association Princess Allie Breunig and Attendant Brooke Trustem will lead the day’s activities along with the Lodi Agricultural Fair Fairest of the Fair, Emily Matzke. More than, 200 children will be able to interact with the royalty, ask questions, and enjoy some dairy goodness.
“Dairy Day at KELC offers young children an opportunity to create long-lasting memories while also learning about the dairy industry through hands-on experiences,” said Heather Dahl, Associate Director at KELC. “We are happy to host this annual event and grateful for our partnership with the Wisconsin Holstein Association.”
