The Wisconsin Holstein Association is calling all juniors to attend the first annual, WHY Lead Youth Leadership Workshop.
The WHY Lead Youth Leadership Workshop will be held March 24-25 at the Wintergreen Resort & Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. The workshop will focus on helping youth gain leadership skills through learning how to communicate their dairy story and advocate for agriculture. The workshop is designed for 15- to 21-year-olds.
The Registration deadline for the workshop is March 1. Registration is $60 and includes lodging, meals and materials. Registration can be done online, https://www.wisholsteins.com/why-lead.
Speakers at the event include:
Kim Bremmer – Your Industry. Your Story. Tell it!
Kicking off the workshop is Kim Bremmer! Kim will walk through why the messages that consumers are getting aren’t necessarily what is happening on farms and how we can work toward sharing the truth.
Kim is the owner of Ag Inspirations and is a nationally recognized agricultural speaker. Kim will motivate and inspire youth to get out and share their story!
Vicki Janisch – What is your WHY?
Vicki Janisch from WMMB will be leading a breakout session on key messaging. This session will focus on developing your unique story as well as talking points to give your personal story life to better connect with consumers.
Vicki is a long time member of the Wisconsin Holstein Association and is active on her family’s dairy, Moss-Oak Farm.
Jill Makovec – Look Mom, I’m on TV!
Jill Makovec of Brownfield Ag Media will hold a crash course in media training. She will walk through how to handle interviews with TV, radio and newspaper reporters.
Jill is a former Alice in Dairyland and is a member of the Wisconsin Holstein Association.
Maija Haggith – Being an Advocate Online
Maija Haggith, Organic Valley, will review social media and how to use this tool as a way to advocate for agriculture. Learn how to properly respond to comments and handle criticism as well as when to disengage from the conversation.
Maija works as an event coordinator for Organic Valley and is a recent graduate of the Holstein Foundation’s YDLI program.
Don Schindler – It’s for the likes. How to increase your influence on Instagram
Don will hold a breakout session on more effectively using Instagram to gain followers, get more likes and share Instagram stories to have a greater impact. He will also be sharing information on Undeniably Dairy.
At Dairy Management, Inc., Don works in digital communications and social media to reach consumers and dairy producers alike.
