As the harvest season comes to a close many farmers begin to make appointments that they may have pushed off due to the busy fall harvest. Some of these appointments include health check-up and even knee or hip replacement surgeries.
As farmers prepare for and schedule their potential knee and hip replacement surgeries it is important to know what to expect from these procedures.
Recently Farm Assistant Jenna Lee, was able to talk with Dr. Chris Evanich an orthopedic surgeon for The Orthopedic Institute of Wisconsin. During the interview Dr. Evanich, explained what farmers could do to prepare for their upcoming surgeries and the realities of recovery time and rehab.
“Replacement surgeries are the last resort when no other options are working to help knee or hip joint pain.” says Dr. Chris Evanich. “But the recovery time for both is fairly quick, and farmers can get back to work on the farm soon after their surgery.”
Dr. Evanich also said, “I have had patients who are farmers from all over the state and as surgeons we love you guys. You are so motivated and we know you will work hard in recovery, and sometimes we have to hold you back rather then push you in recovery just because you have to take care of things that no one else will.”
