Wisconsin’s new Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources is spending some time making sure hunters are aware of the changes they have in place for this year’s gun/deer season.
Dan Meyer, WI DNR Secretary, will be taking to the woods himself both Saturday and Sunday in Jefferson County in search of his deer. Meyer says he thinks the new revisions in how deer hunters report their deer will help with information gathering, and hunter convenience. Here are the key changes to remember:
NEW DEER TAG Rules:
Requirements of deer tag use have recently changed. These include:
- No longer required to validate.
- No longer required to attach the tag.
- No longer required to keep the tag with the meat.
Find additional details on these new rules on the Deer Tags 2017 FAQ [PDF] and the hunting regulations page.
Registration of Harvest Required
All requirements to register deer using GameReg gamereg.wi.gov by 5 p.m. the day after recovery remain in effect, and hunters will continue to provide the tag number when registering.
Meyer had his own “deer hunt” story – but it happened in Arizona! Listen to his conversation with Pam Jahnke to find out about his “big buck”.
