Spud Bowl Set for September 23rd

This Saturday September 23, 2017 marks the 31st Annual Spud Bowl football game as UW-Stevens Point takes on non-conference foe Adrian College (Michigan) at 4 p.m. at Community Stadium in Goerke Park.

The Spud Bowl is a way for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to partner with over 50 local businesses to celebrate the potato and vegetable industry in Central Wisconsin. The Spud Bowl raises awareness about the importance of local agriculture  and funding scholarships for students from the area through the proceeds.

The Spud Bowl will also once again feature free baked potatoes and French fries available inside the football stadium.  This year, Okray Family Farms of Plover is donating the baked potatoes, while McCain Foods USA of Plover is once again donating 1200 servings of French fries.

In conjunction with the Spud Bowl the second annual Spud Run 5K race will also take place two hours prior to the game. The Spud Run 5K will take place at 2 p.m. with the race beginning on Minnesota Avenue just outside the stadium and ending on the track inside the stadium.  It is $20 to enter the race and all participants receive a T-shirt, a ticket to the Spud Bowl game, free Point root beer, and a serving of French fries or potatoes.

To enter The Spud Run, visit: www.athletics.uwsp.edu/spudbowl. Entrants are also accepted in-person the day of the run.

Through the years this potato celebration has awarded over $100,000 in Spud Bowl scholarships to over 100 students. This year’s Spud Bowl scholarship winners will be introduced at halftime of the football game.

It should be a beautiful game day for the Pointer football team, and the Spud Bowl attendees to enjoy this great potato celebration.
