Wine production in Wisconsin …Plenty of opportunity… if you wanna work hard

Ryan Prellwitz wears many hats on the farm and in the winery, “some days I’m making wine, and others I’m picking grapes but everyday I’m the accountant and the custodian”.

Prellwitz and his wife Megan own and operate Wisconsin’s own Vines and Rushes near Ripon Wisconsin. The winery specializes in wine varieties crafted from cold weather hardy grapes that help to aid in the “Very Wisconsin” flavors that Prellwitz and his winery have been come to be know.

Prellwitz says he was trying to get back to the farm and when looking for opportunities he decided to begin growing grapes which then morphed into wine making. Ryan sat down with the Farm Report’s Bryant Gill to share with him what it’s like building a winery from the ground up as well as sharing the hurdles that must be jumped in order to become a successful winery.

About Pam Jahnke

Getting up at 2 in the morning might shock some of her listeners, but for Pam Jahnke, it’s part of the business. Born in Northeastern Wisconsin, Pam Jahnke grew up in agriculture. Raised on her family’s 200-acre dairy farm, she learned the “farm work ethic” first hand.
