Legislation Progress

Earlier this Spring Bryant brought you the story of WI Sen. Patrick Testin and some of the legislation that he has either authored or coauthored this year, for example Testin introduced the “industrial Hemp bill” that is set to legalize the cultivation of industrialized hemp again here in Wisconsin, Wisconsin was once a world leader in hemp production and many opportunities are presenting themselves in the hemp industry again, and the Senator wants WI to once again be a large player in the hemp industry. The Senator says that the bill is awaiting a public hearing and is still at large.

Another piece of legislation that had been getting lots of attention in the media is the “High Capacity wells bill” and the Senator explains that the bill was passed and is currently setting on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature. Testin explains that the original bill was amended to include additional studies to the environment surrounding key areas of Wisconsin like the central sands areas where much our potato are raised and the use of irrigation is more concentrated.

The veterans in farming act is also still awaiting  a public hearing, the bill if signed into law is set to extend greater resources for veterans that want to pursue a career in agriculture and even develop branding to identify veteran grown products. Testin is very proud of this bill and it is seeing bipartisan support and progressing well, Testin admits that right now it’s the state budget that is taking up most of the time at the capitol and after the budget he expects rapid progress on some of the legislation is part of crafting.

About Pam Jahnke

Getting up at 2 in the morning might shock some of her listeners, but for Pam Jahnke, it’s part of the business. Born in Northeastern Wisconsin, Pam Jahnke grew up in agriculture. Raised on her family’s 200-acre dairy farm, she learned the “farm work ethic” first hand.
