Governor Scott Walker announced Tuesday that the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) will be providing amended loan guarantees to dairy farmers and processors with more favorable terms. The Governor’s office says effective immediately new loan guarantees will help Wisconsin dairy producers and processors access much needed capital to help in the current market conditions. Under the new terms, WHEDA will provide more favorable repayment and collateral terms to producers and help to guarantee loans at lower fees.
“This is a difficult time for many Wisconsin dairy farm families due to Canada’s dairy trade policies and we are going to do everything we can to help them.” said Governor Walker
These WHEDA loan changes come after Canada’s decision to unilaterally shut down the market for US ultra-filtered milk resulting in many Wisconsin dairy farmers being without a buyer for milk production beginning on May 1 of 2017.
“WHEDA is proud to be part of the solution to Governor Walker’s efforts to help dairy farmers in need of finding processors for their milk supply,” said WHEDA Executive Director Wyman Winston.
