Looks like Wisconsin farmers are following national trends when it comes to planting intentions this year.
Wisconsin farmers intend to plant 4.00 million acres of corn for all purposes in 2017 according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Prospective Plantings report. This is down 50,000 acres from 2016.
Producers intend to plant 2.15 million acres of soybeans in Wisconsin this year. This is a 190,000 acre increase from 2016. If realized, this would be the largest planted acreage on record.
Farmers in Wisconsin expect to harvest 1.30 million acres of all dry hay for the 2017 crop year. This is 30,000 acres less than harvested in 2016.
Wisconsin farmers intend to plant 210,000 acres of oats for all purposes, unchanged from last year.
Planted acres of winter wheat, at 220,000 acres, are down 50,000 acres from last year.
